National Sake Week is proudly sponsored by the Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association (JSS), the leading organisation supporting sake and shochu producers across Japan.
Founded in December 1953, JSS is a non-profit organisation dedicated to preserving and promoting Japan’s traditional alcoholic beverages, sake, honkaku shochu, awamori, and hon mirin. Today, JSS represents over 1,600 members, including 1,400 sake breweries, 270 shochu distilleries, and 12 mirin makers, all united under 47 regional associations.
JSS plays a vital role in securing the future of Japan’s liquor industry by supporting production, innovation, promotion, and distribution, both domestically and internationally. The association works closely with producers to enhance brewing and distillation techniques, advocate for industry advancement, and maintain essential standards in labelling, food safety, and recycling regulations.
In addition to technical support, JSS actively promotes sake and shochu to new audiences through global events, tastings, educational programs, as well as both breweries and distilleries tours.
.Their Tokyo-based Japan Sake and Shochu Information Center offers visitors opportunities to learn, explore, and experience the incredible diversity of Japanese craft beverages.
Through their efforts to build strong international networks and support sustainable export growth, JSS ensures that sake and shochu can be enjoyed and appreciated around the world for generations to come.
National Sake Week is honoured to have the support of the Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association.
